The consortium Colombia Wisconsin One Health was born as the result of the union of efforts of diverse research centers that have a wide trajectory and track record in promoting scientific and technological research and innovation to the development of health. The members of this consortium include the University of Wisconsin Madison, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the Corporación Ruta N Medellin, entities with great capacity for managing resources both nationally and internationally. This strategic alliance created for the scientific strengthening and the offer of services of diagnosis and clinical, scientific and technological research at the service of health in Colombia, brings with it the integration of one of the laboratories with the highest standards in genomic technology and quality in the region.

Objectives and scope

We are a center for research, innovation and scientific and technological development in the existing areas of excellence to provide innovative approaches to the management of complex health problems. One Health is an interconnected approach that seeks to promote the health of human beings, animals, plants and the environment through inter and multidisciplinary within and beyond the triangle of human-animal-environmental health, incorporating the central axis of the analysis and study of the genome and directed to the implementation of precision measures for detection, prevention and control of diseases in Colombia.

Mission

To be a Center of genomic excellence for research and innovation in biological, genetic and bioengineering aspects around infectious diseases, pathologies in human, animal and environmental health, strengthening new regional and national capacities in science and technology with the search for an offer of competitive services and products with the highest quality standards.

Vision

The Center Colombia - Wisconsin One Health in the next 5 years seeks to become a benchmark of excellence and quality nationally and internationally in research, innovation and discovery around the axis of a single health from the approach of the study of infectious diseases, emerging and Impact Pathologies in Colombia.

Founding institutions

The Universidad Nacional de Colombia is a public entity of the national order, located among the first Latin American institutions in research and academic level. With presence in 4 main cities and geographical areas far from urban centers, but with a high need for professional training, scientific and cultural interest (Caribbean, Pacific, Amazon and Orinoquia).

The University of Wisconsin is a research organization based in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, founded in 1848. UW-Madison is the official state university of Wisconsin. It was the first public university established in Wisconsin and remains the oldest and largest public university in the state. It is organized in 20 schools and colleges. Its comprehensive academic program offers 132 degrees, as well as 149 master's programs and 120 doctoral programs. It is classified as a high activity research center.

The Corporation Ruta N Medellín is a non-profit entity constituted by public entities, namely Empresas Públicas de Medellín, UNE Telecomunicaciones and the Municipality of Medellín. Dedicated, among others, to the development of scientific and technological activities and innovation in the city of Medellín, which increase the competitiveness of the city and the region, which generate a knowledge economy. For this reason, one of the strategies implemented is the creation of international networks, with the aim of consolidating cooperation agreements, transfer of knowledge and good practices, and development of joint projects between countries and international institutions.
